Dear Sports Authority Administration,

My family and I have been satisfied customers of Sports Authority for many years. You have friendly works, reasonable prices, and good equipment that keeps us coming back to buy new sports equipment every sport season.

However, we have had some problems with how many items you carry in women's shoes. I have been satisfied each time when I have gone to your store to buy new shoes for the upcoming seasons, but when my family and I went to your store two weeks ago to buy new basketball shoes there were very little to pick from. It shows in your adds that you have a wide variety of shoes to pick from. But when we went to your store there were only five shoes to pick from, three of them being one shoe in three different colors in women's baseball shoes. The same thing happened when we came in to buy cleats for softball season, there were only two pairs to pick from. When we asked one of your workers if this was the only girls basketball shoes to pick from he said “yes, however we do have a lot of volleyball shoes available.” We were appalled to hear his response because it was such a stereotypical response that I was a girl that I should buy volleyball shoes instead of basketball shoes because it is a more male dominated sport. The same thing for cleats there were walls of football cleats but two pairs of softball cleats. If you say in your adds that you have a wide variety of shoes to pick from, make sure that you have a wide variety of shoes to pick from in women styles too not only in male styles. I understand that you have a good range of choices in girls running shoes, volleyball shoes, and other clothing items, but you should have the same amount of choices in less female dominated sports.

In addition when I did find a pair of basketball shoes I liked, you did not have my size in one of the three pairs I liked. I understand that you may not have all sizes in all shoes, but when you only have three pairs of shoes to pick from you should have all sizes available. I did not want to have to pick a shoe from the mens side but that is what I had to do because they had more available and had the shoes in my size. Boys shoes fit different then girls shoes do, therefore it feels different on your feet. I know that you offer a lot of shoes online however you should offer the same shoes in store because some people do not have the option to purchase shoes online. Also if you you need shoes the next week you won't get them in time because you have to wait for them to get to you, and since we are in Hawaii it will take even longer to get to us.

Throughout this experience the register lady was very polite and cooperative. She agreed with us when we said that it was not fair that the boys had more then 5x the amount of shoes then the girls did. She even told us that we are not the only people to complain about the lack of  women's shoes. She herself said that she was upset because of the lack of shoes, because she played basketball when she was in high school and would be upset too she only had three shoes to pick from when she was playing when the boys had thirty. The only reason why my family and I keep coming back is for your good prices and for your good quality equipment that lasts for a long time.

I have no objection to the boys having a lot of shoes to pick from, but if they get a wide variety to pick from the girls should also have the same option to pick from too.

Sincerely,

Jessie Kalen

Risky Business Final Draft

Boyfriends, girlfriends, teen love stories and, high school sweethearts, yes those all sound nice but in reality it’s not all hugs and kisses. According to everydayhealth.com about 2 in every 10 teen girls report being sexually or physically abused in their relationship and about 1 in every 10 teen boys have reported abuse in the relationship. Teen dating violence is a pattern of behavior that includes physical, emotional, verbal or sexual abuse used by one person in an intimate relationship to exert power and control over another. Teen dating violence is generally defined as occurring among individuals between the ages of 13-19 years old. Teen dating violence can be both a good thing and a bad thing, however most cases of teen dating violence is bad, it leads to trust issues, and it can negatively affect your physical and mental health.

When you are in relationship you are supposed to be able to trust the person you are with. You are not supposed to be afraid of them. Teen dating violence causes teens to have trust issues. Girls that are in an abusive relationship are afraid to tell someone about the abuse not wanting to be hit again by their boyfriend. Afraid to tell their partner they want to break up, scared that they will spread rumors about them or tell personal information that they know, trying to ruin their image, or they are just afraid they will get abused again. The trust the girl once had for the boy decreases each time as the hitting continues. Not knowing if she can trust him when he says “ I will never hit you again, I’m so sorry.” wanting to believe that he is telling the truth she forgives him, not wanting to lose him. According to suicide.org/domesticviolenceandsuicde only half of the domestic violence incidents are reported to police.

When a girl gets abused by their significant other they do not want to tell anyone afraid that they will lose them. So instead of telling the truth on how they got the bruises they say they either fell or they hit it on a table to cover up the abusive relationship.  Wanting to be the “alpha” of the relationship the boy slaps her into place so she doesn't forget where she belongs. Physical abuse is not only slapping, punching, kicking etc. It can be sexually as well. Forcing the girl to do things she does not want to do, afraid to say no she does them so she will not be hit. Feeling helpless the girl does what the boy says to avoid being hit again. In adult domestic violence, women are more often the victim. In teen relationship abuse, both boys and girls report abuse about equally. But most of the time, boys tend to start the violence more often and use greater force the the female does.

It’s never good to be in a violent relationship, but depending on how you handle it after getting out of it, it can either strengthen your mental health or completely destroy it. When people hear about domestic violence, they mostly think about physical abuse such as hitting, punching, slapping, kicking, etc. What they don’t think about is the verbal/mental abuse. Verbal abuse is talking down to your significant other, making them feel smaller or less important. The verbal attacks are meant to control the victim, and to try to strip her of her self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-love. The perpetrator also often wants the woman to believe that she is at fault for the violence and the verbal abuse, says Kevin Caruso from suicide.org/domesticviolenceandsuicide. Being abused by your partner can lead into depression, causing them not to eat, sleep, constantly feeling sad, sometimes even causing one to commit suicide. Studies show that one out of every four women who are the victims of domestic violence attempt suicide. Just because others cannot see the mental abuse that is going on does not mean that it is not as bad as physical abuse. They both take a negative affect on your health.

When there is violence in the relationship it is because they want to show dominance. Thinking that the bruises will eventually fade the male keeps hitting the female until they think that they have learned their lesson. Acting before they think the male hits the female not thinking about the consequences after. Afraid to stand up for yourself the hitting continues and gets worse over time until it is just too much to handle. Some think that hitting your significant other makes the relationship stronger but in reality it leads to having trust issues for the rest of your life, and it can negatively affect your physical and mental health.

They scream and yell at you feel small and worthless. Not wanting to seem like he is “whipped” in front of his friends he talks down to her making her seem small and not important. College Essay Final Draft

College Essay Final Draft

University of Southern California-
Describe the world you come from-- for example, your family, community or school-- and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

My world is filled with many obstacles I have to over come. My dad is in the military so I have to move around a lot. I have to face being the new girl at the school every four years. I have to start over again and again as soon as I get comfortable in a place. Finding new friends and trying to fit in is not fun. Moving around every four or five years is normal to me, but some days I do  wish my life would be like any normal teenage girl life. Like being able to say that my friends and I would go to the same classes in high school, being able to go to dances with each other, or being able to take pictures in our caps and gowns at graduation.  But then again if I had a so call “normal” life I wouldn't be who I am today. I wouldn't have the friends I do today, I wouldn't be on any of the sports teams that I love and I probably wouldn’t have found out what I want to do when I grow up as fast as I did. The world I come from is filled with laughter and love, sadness and stress, also hard work and patience.

Laughter is one of the best medicines To me laughter is like color, it makes everything bright and happy. Laughter makes the day doable for me because I know that sometime during the day I will laugh at something as small as one of my friends corny jokes making me forget about all of the sadness and stress I have. Just being able to smile at something small makes me realize that life is to short to not enjoy it. Stress is one of the many reasons why I need laughter in my life. Stress is a key role in my anger and makes me want to rip out all of my hair. Hating that feeling when your stomach twists and turns because you have to much stacked on your plate trying to walk without it tipping over and spilling everywhere. Stressing about tests that you have all week and the game you have right after school. Also stressing about if you are good enough to make the high school team and if you are good enough to start. Stress to me is like trying to juggle five balls in the air while standing on a tight rope. It’s nearly impossible but somehow you manage to do it. Laughter and stress do not sound like they would go together but in an odd way they do. Because after you were stressing out you should laugh after it to calm yourself down.

Just like how we all need laughter in our lives we also need friends and family. For me friends and family is the definition of love. Family is always there for me when I need them. Giving me advice and encouragement when I need it. Either when I need help for school or any of my sports I know that my family will be there at my side supporting me. Family is my base layer, its where I can always go when I fall because I know I wont fall any more when I’m there. But love does not only come from family, it can can from friends. Friends are there to help support you along with your family. I love my friends because of all of the support they give me. Even if some of my friends and I don't talk anymore because I moved I still love them for helping me through all of my problems when I was with them. My friends help carry some of the weight I have to hold on my shoulders and that is why I love them, they make my life easier. Nobody likes being sad but it always ends up happening. Everything has an opposite and sadness happens to be the opposite of happiness. Sadness happens when the happy stage is over. You can be sad over many things for example being sad over a bad grade, or being sad over a friend. I was really sad when I had to move away from all of my friends but eventually I grew over it and used it as a stepping stone to reach a new level of growth. There is this one quote that I like and it is “if you love something then set it free, and if it comes back then was meant to be” this quote matches love and sadness perfectly. It explains the love part by setting it free but then you have the sad part by actually setting it free and being worried that it might not come back.

If you love something you have to work hard for it. Hard work is something you need if you want to go far in life. You can’t just expect things to magically appear for you when you did nothing to get them. For me I play many sports and you need hard work to do all of them. Our coach makes us go by the quote “hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard” and I believe that is correct, you cant just expect to start the game if you didn’t put in any work at practice. You cannot just be a game all-star meaning you only show up and put you best effort in at the games, you need to put in your best effort at practice too. You practice how you play does not only refer to sports it can represent anything in the world. If you don’t do your homework don’t expect to get an A on the test. You need the practice and handwork to get the good grade.  You need patience to make nice quality work not only for school but for anything you do in life. You don’t want to rush your life you want to take time to make sure you didn't miss anything. Being patient might not be the most fun thing in the world but it does pay off in the end. Being patient and hard work comes together in perfect synch. “Practice makes perfect” is telling the truth. It takes patience and practice to make perfect, it wont just happen you have to work for it.

The dreams I have today are the things I bypassed when I was younger and now wish I could have done them. I dream of all of the memories I could have made if I did the things I was to scared to do. When I dream I, it seems as if I am in a whole different world. My aspiration in life was to make people happy by making movies. I want to make people laugh like how I would laugh at one of my friends corny jokes. I want to make people have different emotions while watching my films. From happy to sad, wanting to keep the audience on the edge of their seats waiting to find out what happens next. I always saw things in a different perspective then the people around me. I used to think I was odd that I saw things that other people might not have seen, already thinking what the next scene would be before it even happened. I always liked making people happy and I was able to do that through video production.

Word Choice Olympics

Word Choice Olympics

Image 1: The man is overjoyed being reunited with his children. After six months of not seeing his three daughters, he embraces them running full speed into a bone crushing hug. The hug lasted about a minute soaking in the warmth of each other. Tears of joy started to fall from their small, delicate faces soaking their dads uniform. Finally breaking the hug, the little girls jumped in joy because their dad was finally home. He watched as his little girls danced around him with the biggest smile on his face as he pulled them into another hug.

Image 2: Mrs. Irwin was supposed to be away on a business trip but the trip ended early so she decided to come home and make her husband dinner. He wasn’t due home until 8:30 from work and dinner wouldn’t be ready until 8:45. It was now 9:30 and Mrs. Irwin was tired of waiting for her husband to show up. She decided to put dinner away and clean up, but thats when she heard the door open and her husband walk in with another women. Mr Irwin was in shock that his wife was home early and jumps away from the other woman hitting his hip on the table. Mrs Irwin wasn’t surprised to see him with her, she has noticed him acting differently for the past six months around her when Mrs Irwin was there. She turned around and opened the cabinet that had a gun in it incase a break in ever happened. She turned around hands shaking and pointed the gun at her husband, her face streaming with tears not listening to a word he is saying. Shouting to get out of her house she fires a shot at his feet causing him to jump. He leaves with the other woman leaving the no longer Mrs. Irwin sobbing in the other room.

Image 3: It was January 25 the day US women's volleyball team would play Germany to take home the gold. It was a tied game with one minute left of the game. Germany was serving the ball, this was USA last chance to score and win the game. Germany hits the ball over the net into USA territory. Callie dives for the ball just saving it before it touches the ground hitting it to Ashley. Taking the right angle Ashley spikes the ball over the net. It seems as if time slowed down while we wait for the ball to drop. The ball drops in the gap on the other side of the court crowning our team as champions.

Image 4:

It was 6:15 am one year after my accident. Exactly one year ago today I got into a car crash. I just got off the Mew York subway, crossing the street to my job. That’s when it happened, it was a hit and run. The doctors told me that I might not be able to ever walk again due to the damage on my leg. A year ago I was told that I had a 35% chance that I would be able to walk again. Today, I ran five miles to central park.

Luke and Katherine were heading to the 50th state fair for their one year anniversary. Both of them heading to the fair with bright smiles on their faces. While walking hand-in-hand, they admired all the luminescent lights surrounding them. They purchased their wrist band on the ticket booth, and headed to the ferris wheel. Luke being the gentleman he is, he helped Katherine get inside and joined her shortly after. As they reached the highest peak of the ferris wheel, Luke looked intensively into Katherine’s eyes and said the three magic words any girl wants to hear “I love you”. Katherine looked at him in shock because that was the first time he has said that, then she looked into his deep blue eyes and said “I love you too”. As the ride came to an end the couple got off and rode every ride at the fair until it closed.

Coming of Age Final

I did the normal schedule that I did every day. I would get ready for school, my mom would drop me off in the front around 7:30 am and I would walk into the big front doors. I would walk down the big crowded hallway that seems like it would never end to meet my friends. Walking over to the circle of girls that I have grown up with, hearing them talk about yesterdays game and how we won. Joining in on the conversation, I congratulated everyone that played and we kept talking until the bell rang and made us go our separate ways, until we would meet up again at lunch. Then, when the day was over I would wait in the front of the school waiting to get picked up.

I saw my moms mini van pull into the round about that leads to my school, so i grabbed my bag and started walking to her car. I open the back sliding door and jump in waving bye to my friends. When I shut the door and my mom tells me the news that would change the rest of my life. She says “ Jessie, since your dad is in the military we have to move every four years and last year we were very lucky that he was able to get an extension but this year we have to move.” I was very quite taking in everything I just learned. I finally responded back and asked how long until we move and where to. She told me we have five months until we leave and that we were moving to Hawaii. When we pulled into our drive way I got out of the car and raced inside. Once inside, I quickly rushed into my room to text my friends the news. Hawaii? How could I be moving? Let alone moving across the Pacific. I sit on my bed and thought of all of my friends that I was going to lose and the family I was going to move away from.

How was I going to do this? I always depended on my friends and now that I am moving what was I supposed to do? They were going to be too busy starting school and living their lives, not going to have time for me and my problems. I was going to have to be more dependent on myself and not on others. I was used to sharing everything with my friends back home but now I was going to handle all of my problems by myself. I was going to have to grow up and solve my own problems, without the help of my friends. It was going to be a huge change from my school now to the school in Hawaii. I was going to have to suck it up and be a big girl and take care of things on my own without the help of other people.

It’s the last day here in Washington and I have to do the hardest thing. I have to say goodbye to all of my friends and family. We drive to the softball fields where all of my friends are playing the last game of the season. I slowly walk over to the field they are playing at and sit there watching them play. When the game is over they see me and rush over. None of us talk all we do is hug each other really tight and not let go. No one wants to say anything afraid that we would cry if we tried to to. I finally break the silence and say “I’ll never forget you guys.” my voice breaking halfway through. My sobs finally come out choking me, not allowing me to say anything else. But we didn’t need to talk, everything we needed to say was said through our hug. When my mom comes over and tells me that we have to leave in five minutes we all start to cry harder and our hug gets tighter not wanting to let go, not wanting to say goodbye. We finally stop hugging and say the words we have been trying to avoid, goodbye. They walk me to my car, waving as we drive away.

We drive to the airport where my aunt and cousin are waiting to say goodbye. My mom and aunt have lived near each other since they were little. We arrive at the airport and unload our bags. We hug our family really tight saying goodbye and that we will see them soon. My mom and aunt hug one more time and we load our bags onto the luggage belt. This was it. Once we cross through the security line it would be official, we were leaving. As I crossed through the sensor I kept thinking what if my friends forget me? What if they get to busy to text me? But I realized that if my mom can move away from her sister, I can do this move as well. My book wasn't ending, a new chapter was just starting. I was growing up and living my own life making my own decisions without the help of other people.

Blog revision

The changes I made to my blog was my background and my header. I made my background blue/green because I really like that color. For my header I made a collage of my friends and I that have helped me with a lot of things. I put them there to match my quote "I wouldn't have life if it weren't for my friends" explaining to people that my friends have helped shape who I am today. I organized my blog by putting my work listed on the side to make it easier to find instead of scrolling through the whole thing.

Coming of Age: Rough Draft

I open the sliding door and jumped in waving bye to my friends. When I shut the door, my mom tells me the news that would change the rest of my life. I sat on my bed and thought of all of my friends that I was going to lose and the family I was going to move away from.

One month before we move the movers start to come and collect our things. I sat on the swing in our front yard watching them take away everything making this move seem even closer. I kept wishing I would wake up from this nightmare and the movers would be gone and all of my things would be back inside. I close my eyes replaying all of the good times I had here in Washington. I see my brother, cousin and I having snowball fights in winter, my family going to mine and my brothers sporting games, seeing all of the sleep overs and birthday parties I had. A tear silently slips down my face and falls to the ground. I quickly wipe my face and run inside to find that my house was empty. I check every room and every room is empty. I go to my room last hoping my stuff will still be in there. I turn the corner and walk into my room and see the movers carrying out the last box, leaving my room empty. My room looks so small now without all of the pictures of my friends and I hanging on the wall, without my bed sitting in the corner.

It’s the last day here in Washington and I have to do the hardest thing. I have to say goodbye to all of my friends and family. We drive to the softball fields where all of my friends are playing the last game of the season. I slowly walk over to the field they are playing at and sit there watching them play. Group Position Statements

Group Position Statements:

Visitors and locals that go hiking and swimming are to blame for the hiking and swimming accidents because most people are careless and unaware of their surroundings, and are ignorant to the safety signs already put up.

The location is to blame for the accidents that happen due to the lack of the sings not being put up, natural conditions that make the spot dangerous, and the lack of safety railings and blockage of hazardous spots.

The government and land owners is to blame for the cause of injuries on hikes and swims due to the lack if funding for sings to be put up, the lack of knowledge on dangerous hikes and the lack of safety precautions.

Mini essay:

There are many dangerous hiking spots that are popular to locals and tourists in Hawaii. Many reports of incidents that happen at these sites are being called into debate on who's to blame. People visiting Hawaii should be able to go on popular hikes without being afraid of getting hurt. The government and land owners should be responsible for the injuries of the hikers and swimmers because they should have warnings signs if the site has any hazardous spots or a gate to keep people out.

The government and land owners are failing to provide signs warning people of the dangers of the place. In the article is states that "Witnesses said that David Potts, 44, of San Anslemo, Calif., was dancing around the blowhole when a large wave struck him behind and knocked him into the hole." When a place has a giant hole it should be gated off because you do not know when a wave comes shooting out. There was only one warning sign in the parking lot, which only said walk at your own risk. In the same article "41 year-old Kevin Oakley of San Valley, Calif., drowned at Maui's Pools of Oheo after rescuing his 7 year-old son, who was swept away by a strong current." There were no signs warning the family of the strong currents of the beach. The government and land owners need to warn its guests of the dangers they may face upon entering the site.

With lack of safety precautions and the lack of signs, the government and land owners are causing popular hiking and swimming spots to become dangerous. With just a couple of signs warning people of the dangers it can help keep visitors safe and aware. Also putting up some railings or gates preventing people from going to far can save lives. Hawaii wants to protect its visitors, not hurt them. The government and land owners need to start protecting its visitors from any harm the land might cause.

Character Analysis

In the book, The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare has many different and unique characters. Each character has their own special personality that makes them who they are. In the book there are four main characters: Portia, Shylock, Antonio, and Bassaino. They all have different problems, but they all relate in some way. A Christian named Antonio makes a deal with Shylock who is a Jewish man who does not like Christians. Since they do not like each other it is hard for them to come to an agreement. Throughout the story, one person stands out with a unique personality. That is Shylock. He is like the Scourge from A Christmas Carol. Shylock is said to be a complicated grumpy old guy who wants his enemies to suffer if he doesn't get his ways. He has a lot of money so he tends to make a lot of deals with people. He only makes deals with people to get more in return.

Shylock is a Jewish man who has a lot of money. He loans money out to people later to get the money back and the some. He is in some terms like a bank. In act 1 scene 3 he makes a deal with Antonio, Bassanio's best friend, that if he doesn't pay him the money he borrowed from him, he will be able to cut off a pound of flesh from Antonio from wherever he likes if he doesn't draw blood. "Be nominated for an equal pound of your flesh to be cut off and taken". This was their agreement if Antonio does not pay back Shylock. Antonio agreed to this bond and promised to pay him back. Shylock is hoping that Antonio will fail to pay him back so that way he can hurt Antonio because he and Antonio are enemies. When Shylock finds out that "he's lost a merchant ship, coming from Tripoli" Shylock is excited to hear that because it means that Antonio can not pay him back. Shylock dose not like Antonio so he is hoping that he will fail to pay him back the money. Their deal shows what type of person Shylock is. He wants to cut a pound of flesh off of Antonio because he doesn't like him.

Throughout the story, when everyone else is showing a different side of hem Shylock stays the same. Shylock is also a father who has a daughter that would rather flea his side then to be known as his daughter. She has left him and stole most of his money and jewels. He has lost whatever money he had to pay off his deals with his other clients. Shylock is upset that his daughter left him and took his money. " You knew-nobody better than you-of my daughter's flight" Shylock is yelling at Solanio and Salerio for knowing that his daughter would leave and they did not tell him. Now that Shylock is upset with his daughter he will take his anger out on anybody, mostly Antonio. "He'd better honor his bond! He used to call me a money lender. He'd better honor his bond!" Shylock is telling the two merchants standing next to him knowing  that he will not be able to pay him back due to the ships that he lost at sea. The two merchants are asking him what he would use a pound of flesh for and Shylock says "To bait fish with! If it feeds nothing else it will feed my revenge . He has disgraced me, and hindered me, half a million times". Shylock doesn't have any use for the flesh, only to harm Antonio if he cannot get his money.

Shylock mostly has things fall into place for him but not this time. When it is time for Antonio and Shylock to meet in court to pay their bond things go bad for Shylock. "This bond does not give you one drop of blood. The words expressly say "one pound of flesh". So take your bond. Take your pound of flesh. But if, in cutting it, you shed one drop of Christian blood, your lands and goods, under the laws of Venice, will be confiscated to the state of Venice". If Shylock wants to cut Antonio he will lose everything he has left, but if he doesn't cut him he would only get the three times the original amount of money he loaned Antonio. Shylock doesn't want the money he wants to cut Antonio, but he cant so he takes that money. "I take the offer then, pay he bond thrice, and let the Christian go". Shylock did not get what he wanted but he at least got three times the money he lent to Antonio in the bond.

Shylocks personality does not really change though out the whole story. Shylock is a complicated grumpy old Jewish man who does not like Christians. He loses most of his money and doesn't get what he wants in the end of the book. Shylock is written as a very unique character in the story. The author writes him with only one personality, but that is okay. The actions he makes can change the whole storyline. He is some what predictable throughout the story by just being who he is but he keeps the book interesting with what he does. Shylock is different from the other characters that's what makes him an original and unique character in the story. Each character in the story has their own personality with problems of their own to solve.

Merchant of Venice pre-reading work

Don’t rely on outward appearances when making judgments.
Yes I agree. People may look one way but act in a different way. Like the saying don't judge a book by its cover. I come off as a quite person but once you get to meet me im kind of loud and crazy.

Justice is always blind.
I do not agree. Everybody deep down judges somebody in some way. Most people will judge them by their race or what they look like. I would want to judge someone by their story not by how they look

A brotherly love between two friends can be just as strong as an intimate love between a man and a woman.
Yes I agree. A intimate love between a man and a women is saying that you would do anything for that person. I believe that same love can happen between friends. That they would do anything for each other without wanting anything in return. I would do anything for a person thay was like a sister or a brother to me.

You can break a promise as long as you have a good excuse
I agree. What if you couldn't complete your promise because something happened to you. Like you made a promise to your frineds that you would go somewhere together for summer but can't because you had a family issue. I was supposed to go somewhere with my friends over break but I couldn't because I had a family issue so I couldn't go. So yes I agree that you cam break it of you have a good reason.

Love is blind.
No I don't agree. Some people might not want to be friends with someone if they are poor or not good looking. Or some people might date someone if they have money or are a certain race. I want to be friends with someone that is nice not because they have money.

Stereotypes are often right.
No I do not agree. For example people say that blondes are not smart. I have a lot of friends that are blonde and are in advanced classes.

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is a good motto to live by.
No I do not agree. You shouldn't do something for something in return. You should do something to be nice not for something from someone. I open doors for people to be polite not because I want something from them.

  1. When I am sad sometimes I know why I am sad but then the other times I don't know why Im sad. I think when I am already in a depressed mood the smallest thing make me crack and lose it. Like I would think of things that made me sad from before and it makes things worse.
  2. Usury wasn't used much in their time but it is now more commonly used. It is commonly used in bigger businesses. Usury is not used in group of friends or in families.
  3. I think it depends on thier personality and how well you know them. The most that I would lend them is 100 dollars. If I didn't know them that much I don't know if I would lend them that much money. For example if I lent somebody a pencil and never gave it back I probably wouldn't lend them money but if they gave it back at the end of class I would lend them money cause they are trustworthy.
  4. I don't think that they will mix well because there will be conflicts. The two won't go together well because even if they are in love their families won't allow it to happen. They will try to stop them from seeing each other. So no I don't think that they will go together well.

Poem final

Book
I am a book
Showing my story to many,
I have different varieties
Up on the shelf
Living life amongst the others
Competing for that one spot
To hear me.
Hearing my story,
Helping you escape the reality
of the life that you have once lived
Wishing it was not a fantasy
To good to be true
Teaching you lessons,
I have learned from my past
I feel so wise
But then I realise that's my prize.
Not wanting to damage my cover,
I stay on the shelf
Quite and peaceful.
I stay by myself
Until you learn my story,
There will be a side of me that will stay quite.
Books are unique
They are one of a kind

Coney Island

Life is like a game. Full of challenges and problems you have to face. You only have certain amount of time to reach your goal before the buzzer beeps. It's full of ups and downs, twists and turns that make you spin out of control. That is what James L. Weil is trying to tell us in his poem "A Coney Island Life." Weil's poem is comparing life to a carnival. Life is a roller coaster that has many twists and loops until you reach the end.
The poem states "having lived a Coney Island life on a roller of ups and downs." After stating that the quote means the "roller coaster of ups and downs" is life's proud moments and the disappointing moments. Weil also wrote "seen my helium hoops break skyward without me." The helium hoops are representing your goals in life. It's like watching your dreams float away just out of reach, not ever coming back down. The poem also says " I take perhaps my last ride on this planet-carousel and ask how many more times round I have to catch that bass ring before the game is up." The last ride on this planet-carousel is like how many days he has left before his time is up. The brass rings is referring to his goals and his dreams he's trying to complete before his "game is up". Throughout the poem, the poet compare's Coney Island to real life. Life is like a roller coaster that has many twists and loops until you reach the end.

Coney Island Draft

In life you have one chance. That's what the poem is saying. The author is talking about life and how you face many challenges.  In the poem it talks about the journeys of life and the tasks you have to face
Life is full of adventure and challanges. Life is a roller coaster and has its ups and downs. In life you have to face many challanges and lifes not easy just like how the roller coaster has its ups and downs so does life.
In life you need to also set goals for adventure. You have to "catch the brass ring sun before the games up". This translates to having to take risks in life and how in life you have to set goals in order to achieve what you want.
This poem talks about the struggles of life and explains how to look at the ways of life. It also shows the struggles that must be faced on the way. This poem is important to me because it shows the way of life and how it works. It also talks about how important life really is to the me and the people in society.
